How to Use Active Learning in a Lecture-Based Class?

A three hour presentation on active learning in a lecture-based class.




Based on Active learning increases student performance in science, engineering, and mathematics (Freeman, et al., 2014) and How People Learn: Brain, Mind, Experience, and School (National Academies Press, 2000).



 
 


This program gives current STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) faculty some easily implemented active learning strategies to use to supplement the traditional lecture to engage students and promote a deeper understanding of the information presented in a standard undergraduate science course.

Participants will engage in active learning activities and develop a plan for implementing 2-3 activities in their current and future courses.



Appropriate for any STEM–related subject.

Requires a minimum of 10 participants.
